‘Zaffarnama’ is in University Syllabus of Iran

The <strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">Zafarnama</strong> was a victory letter sent by Guru Gobind Singh in 1705 to the Mughal Emperor of India, Aurangzeb after the Battle of Chamkaur. The letter is written in Persian verse.</div>

Guru Gobind Singh sent Bhai Daya Singh to Ahmednagar to give it to Aurangzeb. However it is said that a copy of the Zafarnama, written by himself, was found with the Mahant of Patna Sahib in 1890 and one Babu Jagan Nath made a copy; this copy was somehow misplaced by him. Since Babu Jagan Nath was himself a scholar in Persian language, he could reproduce it from his memory and got it printed in Nagri Parcharni Patrika in Benaras. He is also believed to have sent a copy to Sardar Umrao Singh Shergill in Amritsar who is said to have given it to Khalsa college and which in turn reproduced in Makhz-e-Twarikh Sikhan. In Punjab newspapers, it first appeared in the Khalsa Samachar of 16 July 1942. Then in 1944, Kapur Singh ICS published it in Urdu Ajit of Lahore under the heading “Fatehnama”. It is quite possible that in the process of translations and publications of the Zafarnama at different stages, some verses were not reproduced correctly and what we have today is not the original Zafarnama of the Guru in its entirety. The abrupt end of the Zafarnama also indicates that it is not complete and that some verses have been left out. Objections raised by some scholars on the authenticity of a few verses may be viewed in this context.<br />

The Kirpan reminds the Khalsa that he/ she has strength, power and agency. The Kirpan is a symbol of his/ her free will. It bears witness to the concept that he/ she is not a slave and beholden for protection to another. For the Khalsa the wearing of the Kirpan puts to bed the notion that the female is lesser than the male. The Khalsa female does not need the protection of the male for she is endowed by Guru Sahiban with the Kirpan to not only protect herself but also to protect others if need arises. She will sit in the company of equals.</div>

A BSF head constable who was injured in heavy cross-border firing from 
the Pakistani side succumbed to his injuries on Monday in Rajouri sector
 of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.<br />

 side along the LoC in the Rajouri sector in which three other BSF 
personnel were also injured. The condition of another BSF personnel was

Amid cash crunch being faced by the farm sector following demonetisation
 by the Centre, the 12th edition of the four-day Agro Tech, 2016, which 
is being organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), today

Cooperative Department to provide wheat seeds and farm inputs even to 
those farmers who couldn’t renew their credit limits this season due to demonetization. An official spokesperson, however, said only farmers, 
whose credit accounts before the Kharif 2016 was clear, could avail the 
benefit. There are around 10 lakh account holders registered with over 
3,500 state credit cooperative societies, which provide loan and farm 
inputs at subsidized rates to farmers. Due to acute shortage of cash, 
such account holders were not able to renew their credit limits for the 
wheat sowing season by repaying the loan they had taken at the beginning
 of the paddy sowing season. “If farmers are not provided subsidized 
wheat seed and farm inputs at this juncture, it can also affect wheat 
production in the state. Therefore, all cooperative societies have been 
directed to provide seed and inputs to farmers,” said the spokesperson.
