After a long gap from the main screen, Kulraj Randhawa has finally made a comeback and that too a very impactful one!
This natural actor has actually proved yet again that talent is what a performer needs to excel and everything else just takes a back seat when you are doing what you are best at.
Needhi Singh is the story of girl named Needhi who lives in a village called Bhagowal in Punjab. A pleasant and fun loving Needhi is the only child of her parents and believes in living life to the fullest. She, being a strong headed girl, does not tolerate any kind of injustice and that’s what leads to troubles in her life. She has a close friend who gets raped and ultimately loses her life. Needhi stands up for justice, which she doesn’t get as the rapist is the Sarpanch’s (Ashish Duggal) younger brother Lally (Aman Sutdhar). Things take an extreme turn and Needhi becomes a rebel overnight.
There is a guest appearance of the legendary artist Gurdas Mann, who is the connection between the past and the present story.
Well..I’m surely not going to unfold the climax but yes the film kept my eyes wet throughout.
KULRAJ RANDHAWA CARRIES THE ENTIRE FILM ON HER SHOULDERS. HER FACE, HER BODY LANGUAGE AND THOSE EXPRESSIVE EYES, BIG UP GIRL..YOU’RE A GREAT ACTOR!
There are points when certain scenes are exaggerated but overall one is hooked onto the screen for whatever comes next. Kudos to the producers who had the courage to invest in such a project.
Actors like Seema Kaushal, Dhagga Raman, Prateek Rai, Nirmal Rishi and others have performed well and the storyline is gripping.
The music is average and one song by Neha Kakkar is zabardasti da but we somehow managed to gulp it down our throat!
Jaivi Dhanda, as a director, seems to be quite inspired by the Bollywood directors because one can actually see the camera angles and make out that he’s trying something atypical. His direction is worthy of a mention and so is the screenplay by Gaurav Bhalla.
The film does have it’s weaknesses where one feels that such stances don’t really happen in real life especially in pinds. Also, Shubh doesn’t have much to do as an actor.
Overall, Needhi Singh is a watchable film and it is one of those films that picks up overtime because of it being content rich. This one did raise my adrenaline level and also left behind a social message for me and the others watching the movie besides munching popcorns! :p
